POSITION PURPOSE: The PhD Venture Fellow is a nine-month program that offers a unique entry into the venture capital industry through deal sourcing, due diligence, market research, and participating in comprehensive portfolio reviews.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Highly motivated PhD or Post Doc candidates are passionate about deep tech and venture capital. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong analytical skills and a keen interest in one of the following technologies and applications:some text
- Life science: regenerative medicine including cell therapy; precision nutrition
- Deep tech: chemistry and materials; computing including optical and electrical components; human-technology interfaces
- Climate: energy generation and storage; carbon management
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Intellectual curiosity with strong research abilities
- Superior communications and reporting skills
- Self-driven, adaptive, and collaborative team player
- PhD student or graduate with a technical focus (biotechnology, chemistry, engineering a plus)
- Experience with CRM tools like Affinity is a plus
OCCUPATIONAL DEMANDS: This position is primarily office work at both a standing desk or a traditional desk with a computer.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performing scientific and market research to help identify new investment trends and research and innovation opportunities within a focus area.
- Deal screening, analysis, and documentation, including identifying and interviewing potential portfolio targets, analyzing comparative technology and science, documenting call notes and evaluation into CRM
- Generating intelligence reports for innovation and executive teams
- Participating in venture ecosystem events and expanding the Ajinomoto network
- 9-month fellowship. Exact weekly hours are to be determined based on individual circumstances.
