Overview: Piva Capital is a San Francisco-based venture capital firm investing in breakthrough solutions to the world’s most pressing climate and industrial challenges. Our focus is early-to growth- stage companies building frontier technologies that will usher in a new era in energy, industry, and manufacturing, one that is more sustainable, intelligent, and resilient. Piva focuses on three core technology verticals: Future of Industry and Work, Future of Materials and Production, and Future of Energy and Mobility.

We have invested in companies pioneering innovations in low-carbon materials, additive manufacturing, electric aviation, energy storage, artificial intelligence & robotics, next generation computing, alternative proteins, biomanufacturing, and the circular economy.

Program Objective: Piva's 10-week Summer Associate program is designed to provide graduate students (e.g., 1st year MBAs or recent graduates) with a broad understanding of venture investing, especially as it pertains to the new era of climate and industrial technology.

Roles and Responsibilities: Piva Summer Associates will deliver on three areas of responsibility during the program:

1. Investment Thesis Development: Conduct in-depth research and analysis on an emerging opportunity area within Piva’s investment themes. Past topics have included: Low-carbon Hydrogen, Carbon Removal, Industrial Applications of AI, Green Steel & Cement, and The Future of Food & Agriculture
2. Deal Sourcing and Investment Due Diligence: Source and screen startups, and present new opportunities at weekly Partners Meeting. Support technical and commercial due diligence on specific investment opportunities throughout different stages of the pipeline
3. VC Networking: Lead events such as topical industry lunches and dinners, thematic panels, and young
   investor networking events. Build relationships with our co-investors, partners, portfolio companies, leading entrepreneurs and other key stakeholders in the ecosystem

Throughout the program, our Summer Associates will be working closely with our Partners and investment team in downtown San Francisco.
Profile of Candidate: Piva is looking for candidates who are:

• Driven, motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Confident and positive, high-enthusiasm and high-ambition
• Detail-oriented and with outstanding analytical and communication skills
• Able to articulate a clear vision for why a business will scale quickly, make money, and ultimately deliver VC-appropriate returns
• Flexible, low-ego, and willing to get involved with many different aspects of the business
• Deeply curious and have a vision for a better world

Preferred Professional Background:

• Unique and relevant domain expertise in the areas we invest in
• Broad understanding & exposure to industrial decarbonization and digitization
• Strong command of Excel, Powerpoint, and other workplace tools, including advanced functions
• Experience with financial modeling and investment valuation techniques
• Entrepreneurial and collaborative approach to work
