About defy.vc
Defy.vc is an early-stage venture capital firm investing in software businesses at pre-seed through Series A. Founded in 2017, we’re a team of seasoned investors and former founders currently investing out of our $300m Fund III.
The Role
We’re looking to bring an additional investor onto our team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about startups and entrepreneurship. This person may or may not have experience as an investor, but has a strong ownership mentality, hustle, desire to learn, and can have fun while driving results.
Responsibilities
Market Research and Investment Diligence
- Identify and evaluate potential investment opportunities by meeting with entrepreneurs, analyzing existing and emerging markets, consulting with subject matter experts, reviewing business and financial models, and conducting thorough reference checks.
Deal Sourcing
- Connect with entrepreneurs and the broader tech ecosystem to source new investment opportunities, attend industry events, and actively build authentic relationships within the startup ecosystem.
Community Engagement
- Organize gatherings for founders, startups, and investors, and represent Defy.vc at prominent industry events.
Platform Development
- Create content, conduct research, and develop resources to streamline firm processes and share insights internally and with the broader community.
Portfolio Support
- Assist founders and portfolio companies with hiring, follow-on fundraising, and strategic initiatives to support their growth and success. We’re in the corner with our founders, and want you to be as well.
Ideal Experience and Qualifications
- 1-6 years of operating experience at a high-growth startup or venture capital firm
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Analytical rigor and commitment to intellectual honesty
- Investing experience, whether professionally or as a scout/angel
- Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to work as a team player
- Ownership mentality, ability to self-structure and go the extra mile
- A genuine interest and love for technology and products
- Based in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate
Salary Range $100k - $300k commensurate with experience
