About Us

Zinc’s goal is to make the UK the best place to successfully start a science venture that can have a massive impact on the health of people and the planet, and generate exceptional returns on the funding that goes into those ventures. Increasingly, we are building deeper science ventures that serve global, industrial customers in environment and health, giving access to impact at a global scale. We focus on the inception stage. Inception is about the creation of ventures: turning some exciting ingredients and starting-points (a founder and/or IP and/or part of a team that could solve a valuable problem) into a well-built venture with the right team, commercial focus, science and technology, productivity and roadmap to secure seed-funding.

Zinc was established in 2017 and has evolved its operating model to provide various routes and support for investable opportunities, including our Venture building process (an intensive, Venture Partner-led Build phase of up to 6 months, followed by a Grow phase of up to 12 months) and first cheque pre-seed investments. We pride ourselves on the quality of our team, bringing industrial experience in building and scaling IP-led businesses globally and supporting the journey of a founding team with tailored personal support and access to a curated network of over 250 Fellows.

More information can be found on our website and in our 2024 Impact Report.

About the Role

We are seeking a Portfolio Fundraising Lead to play a key role in strengthening the investor ecosystem around our ventures, managing our portfolio as they raise additional funding and supporting our venture partners. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about impact investing, venture capital, and early-stage entrepreneurship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Fundraising & Customer Engagement
  • Expanding and deepening the existing co-investor network, focusing on the pre-seed and seed specialised investors in health and environment across Europe and the US.
  • Facilitate key connections between our startups, investors, and strategic partners to help secure first design partners, paying customers and investors.
  • Portfolio Support
  • Work closely with venture partners to prioritise high-potential ventures, ensuring they receive the necessary support for scaling.
  • Lead portfolio reviews, board meetings, and investor updates to drive strategic alignment and fundraising success.
  • Ecosystem Development
  • Contribute to thought leadership by drafting insights, blogs, and hosting events on impact investing and venture trends.
  • Represent the fund at pitch and investor events, and ecosystem gatherings.
  • Engage with entrepreneurs, co-investors, accelerators, and industry experts to strengthen the fund’s network.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with top-tier service providers and suppliers to offer ventures premium support, cost-saving benefits, and exclusive resources, including lab access, cloud credits, and IP support.

Ideal Candidate

  • 4+ years of investment or operational experience in venture capital or startups, with a proven track record of commercial success.
  • Established network of relevant co-investors to support our existing portfolio.
  • Expertise in health (life sciences, medtech, healthcare) or environment (science/deep tech) sectors.
  • Deep understanding of investment processes and fundraising strategies, with direct experience raising capital as a founder or investor.
  • Strong business development or sales experience, with the ability to build and nurture new relationships.
  • Proactive self-starter who can identify and act on opportunities to accelerate venture growth.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong prioritisation skills, with the ability to navigate competing interests and optimise resource allocation.
  • Passion for mission-driven innovation, technology and investing.
